Seinäjoki is an area of entrepreneurs, a center of South Ostrobotnia and one of the fastest growing city areas in Finland. During the last five years our population has grown over 8 percent. At the same time the amount of workplaces has increased by 10 per cent. The average level of education in the area is at the top level in Finland and the number of people holding an academic degree is about 30 percent.
The Seinäjoki region, with around 200 000 inhabitants is the centre of commerce, administration, education, research and development in the region of South Ostrobothnia. Seinäjoki is the sixth largest market area in Finland, ahead of several bigger cities.
The strongest areas of knowledge are in the food industry (employing 20 000 persons) and IT-industry (employing 6 800 persons). Besides that, the area has a strong building cluster based on wood product and metal knowledge. The retail industry and service branch are also big employers
Seinäjoki has a central geographical location, situated on the Helsinki-Oulu train route. Fast train connections and remarkably developed air links assure good connections elsewhere especially to the metropolitan area, Tampere and Oulu. Seinäjoki is also served by good road connections.
